Meet YB Chong Eng – an influential political figure in Penang, Malaysia, who holds the position of Executive Councillor for Social Development & Non-Islamic Religious Affairs. Her political journey began in 1990, when she joined DAP Penang as a full-time research officer. She quickly rose through the ranks and became the only opposition member in the Penang State Assembly in 1995, followed by winning the Bukit Mertajam Member of Parliament position in 1999, 2004, and 2008 general elections.

Chong Eng’s commitment to advocating for gender equality and social justice is remarkable. She is a prominent figure pushing for a state institution to address women’s development and empowerment. Her efforts in bringing this vision to fruition have been integral, and she truly believes that everyone deserves equal opportunities.
